Teenage Bedroom Ideas – How to Style your Teen’s Bedroom

There comes a time when your child outgrows their childhood bedroom and it’s time to switch it up and create a suitable space for a teenager. You’ll want to create a space they can relax in and call their own so that they can wind down after a busy day at school or just hang out with their friends at the weekend.

Here are a few ideas to help you to style your teen’s bedroom.

Fitted Wardrobes

Fitted wardrobes are a great way to increase storage space and if your daughter is anything like mine then she’ll need ample space to store the endless supply of clothes that teenagers seem to accumulate. Fitted wardrobes give you the freedom to choose how you will utilise a space as well as what kind of doors you’ll have too. A mirrored fitted wardrobe is perfect for smaller rooms and is a great way to make the room feel bigger. It also gives you a full length mirror without taking up any extra floor or wall space with a free-standing mirror.

Give them free rein with colour

Let your teen have a say in how you decorate their bedroom, it’s their space after all. If they want to choose bold, bright colours then consider just decorating one wall that colour to begin with and having more neutral colours on the other walls, you can always paint more, but just one pop of colour might be all they need.

Spend some time looking at colour charts for inspiration to see which colours work well together. Then you can choose complimenting colours for accessories such as curtains, lamp shades and bedding.

Carve out a space to study

Teenagers need somewhere quiet to study so find a space in their bedroom dedicated to this. You could opt for a desk that doubles up as a dressing table in order to make the most of the space. A stool that tucks underneath is great for smaller spaces too.

Let them choose some prints

If you’re reluctant to give your teenager free rein over how they decorate, then a good compromise is to allow them to choose pictures for their walls. Pictures can easily be changed and there is a huge range of choice in colours and styles to choose from online.

Add soft furnishing

Soft furnishing is perfect for creating a calming and relaxing space. You could add throws, fluffy blankets and luxurious bedding to really make it feel extra cosy.
