These days, many couples wait until after they’ve had children before they get married. But once the kids come along, money can be tighter than ever before. Planning a wedding can be expensive if you’re not careful, but there are a few, simple things you can do to cut the cost.
It really isn’t worth taking out a huge loan in order to pay for your wedding. Of course, we all want our day to be magical, but I can’t imagine having to spend years paying off a loan just for that one day. By carefully budgeting and knowing exactly how much things cost in advance, you can save yourself money and still have a wonderful day to remember.
Pool your wedding photos
Wedding photographers can cost a small fortune and they can actually take up a huge chunk of your day asking you and your guests to pose for multiple photos. I do think it’s important to get photos of your wedding that you can look back on for years to come, but there are far cheaper ways to do it.
Pooling your guests’ wedding photos is a great way to save money. All you need to do is ask your guests to take photos throughout the day on their mobile phones. Let’s face it, most guests will be doing that anyway! They can then either send them to you or upload them through a dedicated wedding photos app and you can pick out the best ones to get printed. Doing this is a great way to capture some natural, unposed shots of your special day and those are often the ones you will really love to look back on.
Save money on bridesmaids dresses
If you’re having a few bridesmaids, then it’s worth shopping around to find a good deal. Bridesmaids dresses can cost a fortune, and they are likely to only be worn once!
Make your own
There are so many things for your wedding that you can make yourself even if you don’t think you’re great at doing crafts. It’s really easy these days to make your own wedding stationery and it can cost very little. There are free resources available online and all you need to do is print off your creations – it’s far cheaper than having them made. You can also use the same resources to make your own seating plan and wedding table place cards.
You could also make your own wedding favours to say thank you to the people who have helped to make your day really special. These can be as simple as you like and most people will appreciate the fact that you’ve gone out of your way to make them something.
Even if you only do the things suggested in this post, you will save yourself a lot of money, and there are plenty of other ways you can save money on your wedding day too. The most important thing about your special day is that you’re making a promise to each other, that’s what you need to focus on, and that doesn’t cost a penny.
